Planning a dog photography session? You probably have a few questions—but there are some important ones many people don’t think to ask! Here are five key questions to consider before booking your session.

1. HOW DO YOU HANDLE DOGS THAT ARE SHY, NERVOUS, OR OVERLY ENERGETIC?
Not all dogs are comfortable in front of the camera, and that’s okay! A great photographer knows how to work with different personalities.
✨ My approach: I match the dog’s energy. If a pup is shy or nervous, I give them space and keep them close to their parent. If they’re full of energy, we start with action shots—running and walking—so they can burn off some excitement before we move to sitting and posed shots.
2. HOW DO YOU CAPTURE MY DOG’S UNIQUE PERSONALITY?
Every dog has their own personality—goofy, regal, mischievous, or sweet. A skilled photographer will bring that out in the images.
✨ My approach: I provide gentle guidance throughout the session, but your dog is the star of the show! My goal is to capture them being their authentic selves—the way you know and love them.
3. WHAT SHOULD I DO TO PREPARE MY DOG FOR MY SESSION?
A little preparation can make a big difference in getting great shots! Exercise, grooming, and bringing the right treats and toys all play a role.
✨ My approach: I provide an easy-to-follow prep list so you know exactly what to do before the session.
4. HOW DO YOU KEEP MY DOG SAFE AND COMFORTABLE DURING THE SHOOT?
Safety should always come first. That means choosing secure locations, using a leash (and editing it out later), and taking breaks as needed.
✨ My approach: Most of the parks I use require leashes, and I’ve mastered the art of editing them out of the final photos. Check out this article to see how I do it!
5. WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO DISPLAY MY DOG’S PORTRAITS IN MY HOME?
Many people don’t think beyond digital files, but printed artwork lets you truly enjoy your photos every day.
✨ My approach: I’ll show you samples and help you decide what fits your style—wall art, albums, or a custom display. I have a page on my website showcasing examples in living rooms, kitchens, hallways, and even bathrooms!
