Expect success month
February is International “Expect Success” Month, and what better time to share how I ensure my clients—both two-legged and four-legged—have an amazing experience during their photo sessions? Whether it’s your first shoot with your dog or a cherished tradition, I’m here to make it seamless and enjoyable.
Setting you and your dog up for success
Once your session is booked, I send you three easy-to-follow guides to make sure you’re prepared and confident:

- PREPARING YOUR DOG FOR YOUR SESSION
This guide is all about getting your pup photo-ready. It covers:- How much exercise your dog should have before the session.
- Whether a new collar or accessory would add a polished touch.
- Timing tips for grooming appointments to ensure your dog looks their best.
- WHAT TO WEAR STYLE GUIDE
Deciding what to wear doesn’t have to be stressful! This guide offers advice on:- The best colors to wear (hint: skip black or white – here’s why in this article).
- How textures and layers can add interest to your photos.
- Using accessories like scarves or hats—and even a stylish bandana for your pup—to create a cohesive and unique look.
- WHAT TO BRING TO YOUR PHOTO SESSION
Avoid last-minute “oops” moments with this checklist of essentials, including:- Treats, water, and any favorite toys for your dog.
- Personal items for you, like a lint roller (a lesson I learned the hard way during my own session in fall 2023 when my sweater became a dog-hair magnet!).
- Anything else to make the day comfortable and fun.
Why these guides matter
A photo shoot with your dog is a special event, and preparation makes all the difference. With these resources, you’ll feel ready to enjoy the session without worrying about the details. After all, the goal is to create images that capture the joy and connection you share with your dog.

Let’s make your photo session a success worth celebrating—because you and your dog deserve it!
This guide is gold! Covering everything from pre-session prep to what to wear and bring? That’s how you set people (and their pups) up for success. Love the tip about skipping black or white—sneaky smart for keeping the focus where it belongs. And the lint roller mentioned? Relatable and practical—nothing says “dog parent life” like wearing half your pup’s coat on your sweater.
@Jessica – Thank you so much! I DO try to make the process as easy as possible for my clients!
Great ideas! I love the lint brush, I wrote a similar post, but forgot that essential. Your clients will certainly be prepared with this guide!
@Donna – Thank you! I think it definitely helps to have a great checklist to be prepared!
