Over the years, I’ve explored countless parks for photography sessions, and South Platte Park has easily earned a spot as one of Denver’s best locations for dog photography. These pictures highlight the park’s beauty.

Let me tell you why this is one of my favorite locations:
1. A Hidden Treasure
South Platte Park is a bit of a secret. Tucked away near 470 and Santa Fe, it’s not the easiest place to stumble upon—you’ll need to take an unusual outer road to get there. But that’s part of its charm. Since it’s off the beaten path, the park is often quiet, with fewer people and dogs around. That means minimal distractions for your dog and a stress-free experience for both of you.
2. Stunning Scenery
This park is a photographer’s dream. It offers an incredible variety of backdrops, including tall, stately trees, a serene lake, a charming wood split-rail fence, a wide-open meadow, and a picturesque walking path. No matter your style or your dog’s personality, there’s a perfect setting here to capture beautiful memories.
3. Seasonal Beauty
One of the best things about South Platte Park is its versatility. It shines in every season—whether you’re drawn to the golden hues of autumn, the fresh blooms of spring, the lush greens of summer, or the frosty charm of winter, this park delivers year-round beauty.
4. Convenient and Accessible
Parking is a breeze here, and there’s no need for a long hike to reach the best spots. This makes it an excellent choice for dogs who are older or have mobility challenges. Convenience for both you and your pup is key, and South Platte Park delivers.
5. Close to Dog-Friendly Amenities
After your session, why not treat your dog to a little outing? South Platte Park is just minutes from Aspen Grove mall, where most—if not all—stores and restaurants welcome dogs. It’s the perfect way to round out your day.
It’s no exaggeration to say I’m in love with this park. In fact, at least 75% of the photos in my portfolio were taken here! My clients are always amazed by how versatile and dog-friendly it is.
If you’ve been considering a photography session with your dog, South Platte Park should definitely be at the top of your list. Trust me, you’ll fall in love with it just as much as I have.
Gorgeous location. I’m always looking for places with a wide variety of “looks” without having to hike for miles to them. South Platte Park sounds perfect.
It really is perfect! There are some great spots really close to the parking lot. Those work so well for senior dogs that don’t want to hike further in!
What a gem – it can be difficult to find spots that offer so much variety (and convenience!)
Yes — so many great reasons I love photography sessions there!

What a beautiful spot! I can see why you love to photograph there.
I’m very lucky I found it since it’s off-the-beaten path. Very few people know about this park!
Now that’s how you make a day of it! A photo session followed by a dog-friendly outing? Perfection. South Platte Park and Aspen Grove mall sound like the ultimate combo for pups and their people—adventure, snacks, and probably some well-earned snoozes after. Love the idea of turning the session into a full-on experience!
Yes, outdoor mall Aspen Grove is just minutes away and has lots of places that dogs can visit, including some of the restaurants!
Yes, many people are surprised that most of the dogs I photograph are DEFINITELY on leash! My dog’s the same way — he’s a bit of a wild child off-leash.
