Memorial Day is a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by our nation’s veterans. It’s also the perfect time to spotlight one of Denver’s incredible nonprofits: Freedom Service Dogs.

Freedom Service Dogs’ Mission
Their mission is to transform lives by partnering people with custom-trained assistance dogs. One of their core groups is veterans living with PTSD and/or mobility challenges. These dogs are more than companions—they’re lifelines.
Freedom Service Dogs is accredited by Assistance Dogs International, which ensures the highest standards in training, safety, and client care. They’re also certified by the PsychArmor Institute, a national nonprofit that provides free education to help bridge the civilian-military divide.
Puppies are often born right at their Englewood facility, and training begins early—lasting 12 to 18 months. Once matched with a veteran, each dog can receive additional training tailored to the client’s specific needs.
With a service dog by their side, veterans often gain a renewed sense of independence, confidence, and hope.

Stories of Veterans and their Service Dogs
Over the years, I’ve had the honor of photographing several veteran-dog teams. Their bond is unforgettable—and incredibly moving. You can see some of their stories.
If you or someone you know could benefit from a service dog or skilled companion, I encourage you to learn more through Freedom Service Dog’s website.
Let’s take a moment this Memorial Day to honor those who’ve served—and support the organizations helping them heal.
