Fall photoshoots are winding down, so I’m excited to bake something special for my dog this weekend!

I found this easy recipe – Pumpkin Pie for Dogs. And the ingredients are simple – you might already have everything you need.

WHY MAKE A DOG-FRIENDLY PUMPIN PIE?

Human pumpkin pie isn’t safe for dogs because of its high sugar content, which can lead to obesity, diabetes, and other health problems. Common ingredients in traditional pumpkin pie—like nutmeg, clove, allspice, and vanilla extract—are toxic for dogs. Consuming them can cause high blood pressure, stomach pain, and digestive issues in dogs.

THE BENEFITS OF PUMPKIN FOR DOGS

Pumpkin is a nutritious, dog-safe ingredient. It’s high in dietary fiber, which can help with digestion, easing both constipation and diarrhea. Plus, it’s loaded with vitamins (C, A, and E), potassium, and iron, supporting overall health.

Antioxidants in pumpkin, like beta-carotene, also boost immune health. Dogs love the taste, and it’s easy to add to their diet—whether pureed, cooked, or used in homemade treats!

INGREDIENTS

• ¾ cup oat flour (see tip below)
• ½ cup unsweetened applesauce
• 1 egg
• ¾ cup pumpkin puree
• 1 egg
• ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
• ¼ cup plain Greek yogurt (optional topping)

Ingredient Tips

• Oat Flour: If you don’t have oat flour, make your own by blending uncooked oats into a flour-like consistency. You can also use regular flour or a 50/50 mix of all-purpose and whole wheat flour.
• Pumpkin Substitute: No pumpkin? No problem! You can substitute it with cooked sweet potatoes or butternut squash.
